Just had to post that shot as a comparison against the one my friends from Encrazed Crafts posted from when they visited my server. It’s a good shot with any texture pack, but I still don’t like the default cobble. That visit was about 2 days ago, and I’ve been busy since! The Transcontinental Achievement railroad has been revamped from a hacked-together surface railroad into a full on monorail-style raised train. Complete with color coded stations along the route.

Playing around in Minecraft Beta 1.5

Well the update has been out for… like 24 hours. A quick tip about the update before I get into anything else!
*TIP* – When you have a chest open, “shift + right click” on anything in your inventory moves it into the chest, and vice versa. This is an amazing add, and will make dealing with an inventory full of cobble (or wheat in my case) infinitely easier!!
I’ve quite enjoyed everything about the update, except for the achievements. Now it’s not that I don’t like achievements, most of the time I’m quite happy to spend a bit of time grinding away just to get a cool achievement. In this case, it’s due to the saving system. At the outset, the 1.5 update wasn’t entirely stable (of course) and so at some point the client crashed on me. I didn’t realize it right away but when it crashed, I lost all of the achievements I had. This put me back to the point of making wooden tools on the achievement tree. I am not amused.
In other events, I’ve completely planted the greenhouse with a gigantic amount of wheat.
Minecraft Update – Beta 1.5

It’s here!! wooo!! Everyone update, and update your servers! Mine is all good to go, for those playing on it 🙂
Notch posted with the release notes, which are actually a bit lacking, no offense to Notch:
Minecraft Beta 1.5
(You will need to update your servers as well)
* Weather (rain, snow, thunder)
* Statistics
* Achievements
* Detector rail
* Booster rail
* Performance improvements
More statistics and achievements will be added over time as we develop the game. They’re only stored locally at the moment, but we’ll slowly be rolling out online storing of achievements over time.
(from mcupdate tumblr)
If you’re looking for a few of the finer details, you can see my Speculated Feature List posted previously, otherwise a few things might sneak up on you. (the ladder change for instance)
I haven’t figured out the new crafting recipes on my own yet, but I’m certain the Minecraft Wiki (linked on my sidebar) will have them up in no time. Oh and don’t forget to update your texture packs, or go back to default until everyone catches up!
I’m really excited to start experimenting, so Happy Crafting!!
A Minecraft Auto-Farm

Well this weekend’s project ended up being a redesign of the farm. Beats another 4 days in a cave anyway. 😉
If you’d been watching the world maps I post you’ve probably noticed my fenced-off and creeper-pocked wheat farm near the airstrip. It’s quite large, and never been fully planted due to the size and me getting bored of tilling and planting. Recently I saw a video of an auto-harvesting wheat farm that looked pretty awesome, and I’d rather have that. The one thing that has always turned me off from the auto-farms has been the lack of seeds from the wheat. Of course this tweet changed everthing, and so planning and construction began.
Minecraft – Delay of Beta 1.5

Was just checking in on things today and saw there’s an exciting new post on Notch’s blog!
We were aiming at releasing 1.5 this week, but no. There’s been significant feature creep (we’ve got powered rails now, and lightning hitting a pig will turn it into a zombie pigman), so we don’t have time to get it out this week.
But next week!
Now the delay is always a little disappointing, but I’m all for a mere week’s wait for some cool sounding additional features!
Powered rails!! I’m assuming this is something that will replace the archaic booster mechanic currently necessary to create useful mine cart systems. Hopefully it will be versatile enough to allow for some great new – and compact – mine cart station designs!
And regarding the lightning, that sounds awesome. I hope that getting killed by a lightning strike is at least somewhat of a threat, perhaps your body would turn into a zombie for when you returned to recover your stuff. I wouldn’t mind some kind of penalty for being out in a rain storm either, perhaps iron armor rusting (or leather shrinking?) and losing durability. The weather effects all look amazing, but it would be cool to have them be something more than just for looks.
So though we must wait longer, don’t fret, fellow crafting miners, more awesomeness is in the pipeline! Happy Crafting!
Minecraft Beta 1.5 Preview

Oh my god how did I miss this!! I know it’s been posted all over by now, but I can’t go without mentioning it! Minecraft Beta 1.5 preview video!
The Rain and Snow has been made extra-frequent for the video preview, it wont really happen that much. But wow that achievement system actually looks pretty cool, and woo for stats. 😀 I can finally prove that I mine and craft harder than all you! (or possibly not)
The one thing I don’t agree with is the placement of the “Achievement” and “Statistics” buttons on the inventory screen. Those are both metagame tracking and should be kept on the options menu, not show up when I’m virtually looking in my backpack.
Still, it all looks awesome, the weather affects especially. And from what I read, it should be coming sometime this week.
It’s a patch I can’t wait to play!
Mammoth Minecraft Cave

For at least the last 4 Minecraft sessions I’ve been busy exploring a cave. I found this cave when digging out my underground tree farm, just running into the end of it. The cave is the largest I’ve attempted to explore yet.
Minecraft Texturepack: HandsofFate’s Painterly

I have returned! Was out of town for the last few days so I had very little time online, and I didn’t get to put together a blog post. Since I started blogging about Minecraft here, I’ve had a couple questions about the texture pack seen in the screenshots. It’s not anything special, just the Painterly Pack. I went through the on site customizer and picked options that I liked.
But since people have asked, I’ll post the texture pack I use here, for those who would like to exactly replicate the look you see in my screenshots.
Download: HandsofFate Pack
(EDIT: Since the update to 1.5 I’ve kept the link to my texture pack on the “My Minecraft Server” page, to keep the pack current)
The main features of the pack are light stone and cobble, light wood textures, and a paler smooth grass. Fixtures such as doors, chests, and workbenches are all dark. Oh and my glass has the least border possible without being completely invisible. I like my bay windows. 🙂
Hope you enjoy, and Happy Crafting!
