Well, after attempting to venture into the Nether with a buddy I’ve found Minecraft, as it currently stands, to be completely unplayable. Of course it took me dying and losing all my equipment to decide this, but now I’m certain.
Notch has posted on his twitter that they are aware of a bug that is causing severely high CPU usage on the server. I’d recommend everyone take a bit of a break, don’t attempt anything crazy on your server right now. I had to learn my lesson in lava!
Keep an eye on Notch’s twitter feed and he’ll let everyone know when he’s got another bug fix update to try out. I know the game is in Beta, but I had hoped things were past this kind of game-breaking problem. But we know Notch is on the case, so I’ll take my own advice and be patient!
Happy Crafting! (at some future point!)
I had the same problem with lags on my Server since patch 1.6
You have to set allow-nether=true to allow-nether=false
after doing this my server was like before, no lags and playable.
I guess its because the server load both maps, the real one and the nether.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I’d rather deal with the lag for a bit than disable the coolest feature of the update. I have confidence that the guys at Mojang have a handle on this and will get it straightened out soon.
At any rate, the lag isn’t my biggest problem right now- chunks not loading at all is.
chunks not loading is lag…. it all comes from the same place.
You’d think they’d hire a QA professional to help bug-test their code. But, hey, what’s the point when there’s a million hungry fans willing to do that for them.
I guess what upsets me is Notch is sort of cherry-picking stuff to add to the game from the mod community now. So, he gets to profit from value-added things others created for free. And, while he’s fixing bugs, every time the game rolls out it seems to get more sluggish and buggier. Two steps forward, one step back, all the time.
this is an exceptionally good point.. he has now stolen the idea for pistons, aether and god knows what else.
Both the Pistons and Aether people were going as far as petitioning to have them made permanent additions… stolen is far from the truth.
Also it hasn’t been “he” for a long time now. “Mojang” is more accurate.
And you obviously don’t develop mods. To have one made a standard build-in of the game and get credit for it is the second-greatest thing a modder can hope for. The highest goal I would assume is to be offered a job. It’s little but an enormous honor.
1.6.4 is a piece of shit… Honestly I can do without all the added shi if it means the game actually fucng running properly.. This patch is by far the worst yet. I would like the be patient but the decline from 1.5 to 1.6 is so significant it begs to ask why even play? Help is down, Commands=down, portals=lagout, respawn/reboot = lagout. Blocks reappearing a a whole new bevvy of things that never happened before. Honestly I’d be muchhappier if he just cut the crap, tell the update junkies to stfu, and concentrate SOLELY on ficing the bugs. It would seem a whole lot more responsible.
