Got back to playing some Minecraft for a bit over the last couple days. I was prevented from playing one evening due to my server being down, network issues or something, but it was brought back up quickly. I didn’t feel like bobbing around the ocean so I picked up some cobble and started on another project.
Oh and you can see the entire map that exists of now, including my weird tower at the lava pool to the far right.
So the other day, thinking about the exploration journey that George and I had gone on, I decided I wanted to build a road out to some of our “rest stops”. I went to the end of my large bridge and began grading the landscape and laying cobble.
Usually when I build a road, it ends up completely straight and square, mainly due to my laziness. It’s a little more hassle to figure out how to keep the width consistent when rounding a corner smoothly. But this time I wanted to have a more interesting winding road on the map. It took a couple in-game days, but I’ve nearly gotten the road done all the way to rest stop alpha, and you can see the junction where I’ll continue on to beta.
I was right that it was more of a hassle, and it probably took more than twice the cobble that a straight road would have. But when you walk along the road it’s a much nicer experience than the dull straight-line walk of my previous roads. I have yet to go along and add lights for it, but that’s practically a separate project.
I ended up adding a small bridge, since in planning my route to rest stop alpha, I decided that it would be a lot less work to just bridge a small inlet than to cut into the cliffside all the way around it. I think it looks good though!
That’s all I really got done for this weekend, so until I can post again, Happy Crafting!
Nice lookin’ road, bud! The Misses had one in the first iteration of the server we were on, and it looked pretty good, helped escort players around and that. But it was only 1 wide and was a little too simple. Yours is looking really nice, man. Nice touch with the bridge too, I’ve always wanted to make a big ol’ industrial bridge… but I’ve never had anything to build it TO. So it’s like the bridge itself would be more of an attraction than anything around it haha
Thanks 🙂 Bridges and roads are always cool to build in Minecraft. I’ve had the one big bridge for quite a while that didn’t lead to anything specific. I just stood on one hill and said, “I’m gonna build a bridge to that hill over there.” Now I finally extended the road from the end of it, so there’s a purpose in the end!
Looks awesome! I quite enjoy your bridge design. Which texture pack do you use? I like it 🙂
Thanks for the comment! I use a version of the Painterly texture pack. It’s too customizable to describe the options I picked, but the main things are light stone and light wood. I’ve really been meaning to post it in case anyone wanted to replicate the look in my screenshots, so I’ll try to get that post coming up soon!
