Minecraft Beta 1.5 – Speculated Feature List

Well it seems Beta 1.5 for Minecraft (update coming sometime next week at this point) is going to be full of surprises!

So many things are set to change, I figured I should take a run through all the Mojang blogs and twitters, and I put together this list of what the changes are going to be, at the moment. Sources linked for each item.

NEW FEATURES

  • Powered Minecart Tracks (boosters)
    • boost in either direction when powered, brake when unpowered
    • will be crafted from gold rather than iron

  • Minecart Detector Tracks
    • detects when any minecart is  on that track section
    • sources: @jeb_ / @jeb_ / @notch
  • Server detection of “flying” client side mods
    • server attempts to detect when a client is using a “flying” mod and kicks the person when detected, can be disabled in server settings.

  • Stats and Achievements
  • Weather effects
    • Snow and ice once again regenerate
    • Rain will put out fires
    • Lightning occurs during rain and will start fires, also turns pigs into zombie pigmen

CHANGES & UPDATES

  • Water current strength reduced to pre-patch 1.4 levels
  • No longer able to climb ladders that are spaced 1 block apart
  • Crafting ladders now yields 2 ladders per set of sticks
  • Trees drop fewer saplings (no exact figures given)
  • Saplings will correspond to tree type
    • Only birch trees specifically mentioned

  • Wheat harvested by water will drop seeds

OTHER CHANGES

  • Occlusion Culling
  • Sides of grass blocks now biome compliant
    • assumed that this is what notch is referring to as “fixed the side textures of grass”

  • Particle effects when players walk through snow

This is far from a definitive list, and I have no inside information regarding the update. I simply combed through available information and compiled it here. I did my best to correctly interpret statements when meaning wasn’t 100% clear, but I make no guarantees as far as my accuracy. If anyone at Mojang felt it necessary to contact me with corrections, I would be thrilled. 😉
